🌿 AJ ASIPASM: Cacao with Deep Social and Environmental Impact

In the heart of Jolomijix, Panzós, Alta Verapaz, the Maya Q’eqchí cooperative AJ ASIPASM is transforming cacao into a tool for resilience, dignity, and environmental protection. With over 350 smallholder producers, this cooperative represents one of the most meaningful cacao partnerships Chocolates Sero has ever cultivated.

👥 A Community Rooted in the Land

AJ ASIPASM began as our first source of smallholder cacao — and it remains our strongest. Today, 180 active members contribute cacao grown on their own family parcels. By purchasing at premium prices, Chocolates Sero helps ensure:

  • Food security for farming families
  • Preservation of ancestral lands
  • Reduced migration from the Polochic Valley, one of Guatemala’s most vulnerable regions

This is cacao that keeps families together and communities thriving.

🌎 Cacao as Conservation

AJ ASIPASM’s producers live along the edge of La Sierra de las Minas, one of Guatemala’s most pristine natural reserves. Cacao’s need for shade has turned these farmers into guardians of the forest, protecting biodiversity and preventing illegal logging.

By supporting cacao cultivation, we’re also supporting:

  • Native tree preservation
  • Wildlife corridors
  • Regenerative agroforestry systems

This is cacao that defends ecosystems.

🍫 Flavor and Genetics Worth Celebrating

The cooperative’s cacao is grown in rich soils with carefully selected genetics, resulting in a profile that’s both refined and expressive. Every harvest reflects the land’s vitality and the producers’ care.
